DUBLIN, Ireland--Aug. 17, 2006--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c40849) has announced the addition of "2006 Global NGN, IP and VoIP - Volume 2 - Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Pacific" to their offering.

DUBLIN, Ireland–Aug. 17, 2006–Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c40849) has announced the addition of “2006 Global NGN, IP and VoIP - Volume 2 - Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Pacific” to their offering.

Next Generation Networks (NGN), VoIP (internet telephony), cheaper calls, new IT applications, voice, data and video convergence, VPN, IP networks.

ATM switching is rapidly becoming inadequate (and too costly) for the more advanced multimedia networks, and it is being replaced with NGN Internet Protocol (IP) and Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, which allows users to develop more innovative products and services. This migration from circuit-switched to packet-based networks is a logical progression in the drive towards IP.

VoIP, an application running on NGNs, has already started to gain traction in the market, but as a stand alone product it is unlikely to become a replacement for fixed line telephony. In Europe, the product is becoming very popular in triple play business models. IPTV is another product that is gaining momentum and Fixed-Mobil-Convergence (FMC) is also an application that requires an NGN.

Volume 2 of this report includes information on the developments taking place regionally, including analysis, statistics, forecasts and trends. Detailed information on convergence and FttH infrastructure are covered in different reports.

Key highlights:

– In the US, developments in NGNs are being led by a rapid uptake in VoIP, which is quickly becoming the most competitive sector in the telecommunications market.

– Canada has recently seen a rapid uptake in VoIP and will increasingly migrate towards NGN, IP and VoIP technologies.

– In Europe, by the end of 2006, VoIP will be used by more than two thirds of large companies in countries with a strong broadband penetration.

– Numerous NGN deployments have been made in Eastern Europe, influenced by the liberalised communications markets. Deployments have been made by both the incumbent fixed-line operators and alternative operators.

– VoIP remains banned in many countries of the Middle East, but increasing competition is starting to encourage more use of such convergence products as VoIP and VoD by incumbents and alternative operators.

– NGN rollouts or initiatives have been launched in 12 African countries, some of them based on wireless technologies.

– The introduction of VoIP has had a significant impact on the Asian telecom market as call services become available at greatly reduced prices.

– In Australia, security concerns of the past are waning and a growing number of small to large sized corporates and government departments are now implementing NGN networks.

Report also contains:

– Covering Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific

– NGN, IP, VPN and VoIP overviews

– Market overviews, developments and statistics

– Major players and projects

– VoIP overviews and statistics

NORWALK, Conn. –Nov. 21, 2005–Today Technology Marketing Corp. (TMC) announces the launch of IMS Magazine.

According to TMC president and Group Editor-in-Chief Rich Tehrani, the mission of IMS Magazine is to teach the service provider community about the massive opportunities afforded them in the move to IP Multimedia Subsystems based architectures.

“IMS Magazine will focus on wireless and wireline opportunities as well as the intersection of the two. As I see it, there are few opportunities in the telecom market like IMS. As service providers continue to seek ways to provide advanced services while reducing provisioning and deployment costs, they must act quickly to stay ahead of an increasingly competitive telecom environment. The investment these carriers make in IMS today will quickly turn to profit tomorrow,” explained Tehrani.

Tehrani continued, “While IMS has the potential to drastically simplify the way providers provision and deploy new services, getting there will take much education, evangelizing and a focus on success stories in the market. Expect IMS Magazine to focus on these issues. In this way, IMS Magazine aims to be the primary resource to which service providers turn when deploying next-generation networks.”

OAKLAND, Calif. --Nov. 17, 2005--Zhone Technologies, Inc.

OAKLAND, Calif. –Nov. 17, 2005–Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZHNE), the first company dedicated to building total-delivery solutions for voice, data, video and entertainment services worldwide announced today that Zhone’s Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC(TM)) was awarded the top ranking among Broadband Loop Carrier products by independent technology analyst firm Current Analysis.

In its most recent review of Broadband Loop Carrier products, Current Analysis rated offerings from eight competing vendors including Alcatel, Calix, Ciena, Lucent, Occam, Samsung and Tellabs. The products were evaluated based on five categories including Scalability, Packet Migration Flexibility, Legacy Voice Support, DSL Support and Price. Each product was assigned a score for each category based on its merits in the specific area. Zhone’s MALC received the highest ranking of all products reviewed with a composite score of twenty-four out of a possible score of twenty-five.

In addition to top marks in numerical scoring, Zhone’s MALC was also distinguished by Current Analysis in this most recent report as the only platform deemed ‘very threatening’ to competitors.

“Zhone can assert with validity the highest DLC (and DSLAM) density/scalability metrics on the market with support of up to 960 ADSL2+ ports per MALC chassis and 5,760 ADSL2+ ports per seven-foot rack,” said Ron Westfall, Principal Analyst for Broadband Infrastructure at Current Analysis. “The MALC enables carriers to transition from TDM voice services to converged, packet-based voice, data and video service offerings as driven by customer demand.”

The MALC platform supports software-selectable service ports, integrated cross-connect, integrated loop qualification with internal splitters, and flow-through provisioning capabilities to aid Zhone’s efforts to clearly differentiate the platform from traditional DLC platforms. The addition of the PON components as well as RPR transport technology to the MALC line demonstrates Zhone’s strong commitment to the next-generation (fiber-based) broadband access market, bolsters the architecture’s “protocol- and media-agnostic vision,” and enhances and extends the service life of the platform. This also allows Zhone to offer common hardware and management systems for both copper and fiber access media.

The market-leading MALC and Raptor products have been widely deployed by leading carriers globally. The MALC is a versatile platform that is available in a range of environmentally hardened shelf sizes including 7U, 3U and now 1U and can be deployed in the CO, remote terminals or subtended from existing cabinets.

By simultaneously addressing the need for bandwidth, reach and interoperability, Zhone allows operators to provide cost-effective voice, data and video services. In addition, the MALC is the only family of BLCs that provide in-service migration from TDM to IP Voice (VoIP) services with software-selectable emergency standalone capabilities. The MALC makes delivery of voice, data and video services possible today while providing an elegant migration to pure packet.

“Carriers are turning to Broadband Loop Carriers to deliver triple-play voice, data and video services,” said David Markowitz, vice president of marketing at Zhone. “As the number one BLC platform on the market today, Zhone’s MALC has already been validated by the market place as the best platform for delivering profitable triple-play services. This recent product assessment by Current Analysis further validates the MALCs superior feature, density and cost benefits.”

About Zhone Technologies, Inc. (Zhone)

Zhone designs and manufactures network equipment for network operators worldwide. Zhone’s products allow network operators to deliver a rich array of voice, data, video and entertainment services over their existing networks while simultaneously retooling for converged packet-based voice (VoIP) and video (IPTV) over copper or fiber access lines.

Zhone’s advanced networking solutions include the Single Line Multi-Service architecture (SLMS(TM)), Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC(TM)), Raptor(TM) and GranDSLAM(TM) ATM/IP DSLAMs, ReachDSL(TM) Technology, FiberSLAM(TM) Optical Line Terminal, Zhone Residential Gateways (ZRG(TM)), GigaMux(TM) Optical Transport Systems and Zhone Management System (ZMS(TM)). With deployments at over 600 carriers including among some of the world’s largest networks, Zhone has enabled network operators to reinvent their businesses.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. –Nov. 16, 2005–Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR) today announced that Distributel, a Canadian provider of competitive telecommunications services, has deployed Juniper Networks E- and M-series routing platforms to upgrade its network in preparation for the launch of a new xDSL-based voice over IP (VoIP) service. By providing voice-specific quality of service (QoS) policies and industry-leading reliability and performance, the Juniper Networks solution will enable Distributel to assure the quality of its new VoIP service.

“When we began planning to deploy a new VoIP offering, it was clear that our routing infrastructure needed to be upgraded to ensure delivery of a reliable voice service offering,” said Chris Kawchuk, director data telecommunications, Distributel. “We selected Juniper Networks E- and M-series because they are proven to support advanced services like VoIP, so we can be confident our business and residential customers will experience a completely reliable VoIP service, with quality indistinguishable from that of traditional voice services.”

Distributel has deployed the Juniper Networks M-series Multiservice Routers in the core of the network, and is using the E-series Broadband Services Routers for xDSL aggregation. The combined edge portfolio uniquely combines best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities with unmatched reliability, performance, and service flexibility.

The M-series enables providers to consolidate multiple networks onto a single IP/MPLS infrastructure, while simultaneously generating new revenues with leading-edge services like VoIP.

The E-series Broadband Services Router provides scalable capacity for tens of thousands of users and delivers advanced per-subscriber QoS capabilities, making it the ideal platform for delivering multi-media broadband services such as VoIP, Video on Demand and IPTV to a large number of residential customers.

“As a real-time service, VoIP is different from traditional IP services because its success depends first and foremost on quality and reliability,” said Tim Lambie, vice president, Americas International, Juniper Networks. “Distributel is one of Canada’s most innovative service providers, and we’re pleased that Distributel chose the E- and M-series to secure and assure their network as they plan to introduce new services such as VoIP.”

About Distributel

Support for On-Demand Services, Converged Services and New Emerging OSS Architectures

Sigma Systems, (www.sigma-systems.com), the leading provider of service management OSS solutions, delivering next-generation services on IP broadband and wireless networks, today announced the general market availability of the Sigma Service Management Platform (SMP) Release 3.0, the company’s award-winning flagship product.

SMP is a high performance, extremely reliable, flexible, and customizable service management Platform with proven Service Provider deployments in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific since 1996. SMP Release 3.0 has major enhancements to automate service management and service delivery of subscription, on-demand, and converged telecommunications services for IP broadband and wireless Service Providers.

“Our customers want to offer new classes of services such as on-demand and event based services to enhance their revenue opportunities and competitive differentiation,” said Tim Spencer, President, Sigma Systems. “With SMP 3.0, Service Providers will now have an optimized platform for creating and provisioning these new classes of innovative converged services more rapidly and at lower costs.”

This third generation Platform reinforces Sigma’s global leadership in OSS solutions for cable, wireless and telecommunications providers by delivering a platform to support the emerging new classes of voice, video, data services including subscription, pre-paid, on-demand and event-based services.

“As more and more advanced services are coming down the pike, so too are the needs for - and complexities of - automated service creation, service provisioning and service delivery, increasing,” said Larry Goldman, Founder OSS Observer, a leading OSS analyst firm. “To maintain competitive advantage, carriers are concerning themselves with their service fulfillment systems more than ever before, boding well for companies such as Sigma.”

In 2006, Sigma Systems will continue to invest significantly in SMP 3.x, in meeting the evolving demands of commercial/business, IPTV, 3G and IMS related services.

SMP 3.0 capabilities include:

- Support for the creation, delivery and management of on-demand and event based services.

- Technology agnostic support for external subscriber repositories, enabling operators to deploy global subscriber identity repositories (LDAP, SQL, 3rd Party solutions), centralized or distributed within their service delivery infrastructure.

- Enhanced service creation environment to facilitate easier and faster creation or modification of services.

- Simplified integration with centralized user security management systems with support for the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Java Authentication and Authorization Service API (JAAS).

- Enhanced J2EE-based adapter framework and control console to simplify integration with external OSS systems and service/network platforms

- Policy based priority management for service orders.

- Significant performance improvements to Sigma’s core ServiceBroker(TM) engine, the component of SMP that delivers powerful intelligent process control and high transaction performance, enabling SMP to dynamically determine, assemble and execute the required processes to instantiate complex service bundles or on-demand services, over a heterogeneous multi-vendor network.

“In order to offer the new classes of on-demand, time interval, user identity based, and IMS based converged services, service providers must evolve their OSS architecture to meet the unique requirements posed by these new service classes,” said Brian Cappellani, CTO, Sigma Systems. “Our SMP 3.x series of releases are targeted to support the evolution to this new OSS architecture”.

Sigma Service Management Platform Release 3.0 is now generally available to the marketplace and Cox Communications recently signed a contract extension through 2010 with Sigma Systems and will be deploying SMP 3.0 in 2006.
